Hundred former army medics are being recruited to support India. The record surges of COVID-19 infections and deaths will require a nationwide lockdown to hopefully contain the numbers.
Over 500 medics will embark on an 11 months support mission, helping on the ground and with online consultation.
With over 4,000 deaths for two days in a row, these record numbers are bringing the nation to its knees.
The lockdowns have been too loose, resulting in a further strengthening of all restrictions closing all malls, restaurants, pubs, and cinemas.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been delaying the lockdown repeating the same mistakes made during the first wave, ignoring the (IMA) Indian Medical Association cry for a complete lockdown, instead of the sporadic poorly-planned night restrictions adopted so far.
“IMA is astonished to see the extreme lethargy and inappropriate actions from the ministry of health in combating the agonizing crisis born out of the devastating second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic,” reported in a statement on Saturday.
Narendra Modi is still allowing massive gatherings at religious festivals and election rallies ignoring the record numbers of deaths and contagions.
The official health ministry report shows 4,092 deaths over the past 24 hours, taking the overall death toll to 242,362 with a total of 22.3 million, and on Saturday COVID-19 death toll of 4,187.
With no supply of oxygen, respirators and crematoriums, the number of deaths is estimated to pass 1.2 million by August, and the Institute for Health Metrics declared that the numbers could run higher.
Even though support from all nations has been coming constantly to India, and even though India is the world’s largest vaccine producer, the situation doesn’t seem to be improving. It will require the entire population to take a stand and self-isolate.
