Lady Gaga started the video by recalling the day a decade ago when the 9.0-magnitude quake, one of the strongest on record, crashed into Japan’s northeastern coast.
“It seems like yesterday that I was watching the shocking footage of the devastating earthquake and tsunami on the news and thinking, what can I do to help,” she said, adding that she remembered making a lot of phone calls on the day of the March 11, 2011 disaster that claimed nearly 20,000 victims.
In a light pink top and her hair in mauve bunches, Lady Gaga went on to draw a parallel between Japan’s resilience and coronavirus, saying, “It gives hope to the people now that are fighting through the COVID pandemic all around the world.”
The star, who has a huge following in Japan, ended by saying ‘I love you’ in Japanese and saying she looked forward to returning to Japan soon. She also exhorted people to take care.
