Breton: the EU will not renew the contract with AstraZeneca

The European Commission has not yet renewed its contract for AstraZeneca’s Covid vaccine. This was said by the commissioner for European internal trade, Thierry Breton, to  France Inter. The current contract expires at the end of June. After that deadline “we haven’t renewed the order, we’ll see what happens,” Breton said.

Yesterday the Commission announced that the European Union will purchase up to 1.8 billion more doses of the vaccine from Pfizer / BioNTech.
